Message from Chairman 23/05/16
It has been fair to say that this year has been disappointing due to the “David” situation.
However I must thank my committee. In particular Roly and Richard Watson in dealing with the financial matters, John Rozier and Ian Wood in the day to day running of the club.
A tremendous effort with everybody pulling together. Also work done throughout the year by Andrew Winfield, Ryan Baker, Andy Arbon, Miles, Robert Hubvert, Justine and Ken for getting the
trophy and Nick Chuddy for keeping the toilets so clean. If I’ve forgotten anybody please accept my apologies.
One of the jobs undertaken was clearing the stock ponds which are now ready for fish. We welcome back George Rodwell and Damien who have kindly agreed to run the Junior section. This is
very important for the club some of you sitting here tonight were Junior members!
We have stocked Barham and Alderson with carp, and the canal at Alderson with small roach. The carp are already showing at Barham. The river has fished exceptionally well this winter with
quality roach showing one fish topping 2lb. Work has been done creating swims in the hazelwood at Bramford. Thanks to Roly, Steve Prentice, Les Hart, Ken Elmy and others. We had a fine match there in
March in memory of K Gosling.
Also thanks to Paul Ryan and team of bailiffs who have done a fine job particularly at Alderson where there were a few problems. A little more tolerance and respecting the person in the
next swim is the answer.
We need to move forward together as a club and respect each other’s form of fishing as I said 3 years ago when you elected me Chairman.
We are open to all aspects of fishing if anybody has a problem rather than air it on social media or the bank why not come to a monthly meeting or contact me. Try to promote the club more
– we need more members.
Lastly enjoy your fishing and don’t forget to smell the flowers along the way.

Appeal for the identity of the holders of certain membership
It has come to my notice that there is some uncertainty as to the location of certain membership books; these can
be identified from the serial number in the top right hand corner of the first page that is not part of the card outer.
Some of these are term membership subscription books for a period ending 31 May 2017. The society has no record of
the holder and when books are printed for the forthcoming season the holder will not receive a 2016/7 book.
If you are in possession of one of these I should be grateful for your advice as to
- the date of issue
- the source
- the amount paid
- the method of payment (cash/cheque/credit card)
- your details, and ideally, a scanned copy of the first page.

It is with great sadness and regret that I have to announce Keith Gostling has passed away. Keith was a great servant to GAPS, twice filling the
role of chairman and was an honorary Vice President of the club. Keith will be very sadly missed by all of us at the club. Since taking office last April, Keith has become a good friend to me, always
on hand to offer help and advice. His wealth of knowledge was overwhelming at times, few people know the river gipping and it\\\'s history as well as Keith did. Keith joined GAPS as a teenager and
spent over 55 years as a member. Keith chose to continue to pay for his membership when eligible for a complimentary membership as an honorary Vice President. GAPS owe a debt of gratitude to Keith
and there will be a minutes silence in respect of Keith at the clubs AGM in April. Our deepest sympathies go to Keith\'s family at this difficult time. David Page GAPS secretary

ALDERSON LAKE OTTER FENCE
The club are currently busy with the planning, preparation, and at a later date erection of an otter fence at Alderson Lakes. There has been a lot
of work consulting with the EA, drainage board and council footpath department for approval of the fence. Detailed designs have been drawn up and the fence components are currently being fabricated
prior to galvanising at a fabricators. Vegetation clearance has started but there is a considerable amount still to do prior to fence erection and this is time consuming. The club are looking to do
this right first time, which will mean that it will not be finished in a matter of a few weeks, but the finished result will be a proper fence fit for purpose. A lot of time has gone into this
project already, however there is a considerable amount of work remaining, so please be patient.
